SENIOR LIFE SERVICES OF MORGAN COUNTY
Board of Directors Meeting
March 9, 2011


Present: Larry Barney, Denise Bergen, Isaac Bohrer, Brenda Hutchinson, Andy Jurick,
Linda Kjeldgaard, Bill Makinson, George McVey, Jayne Meadows, Mary Liz Phillips,
Grant Wheeler, Joel Tuttle, Executive Director


Excused Absences: Barbara Norton, Marti Sikes and Paul Zorich


Call to Order: Having a quorum present, Larry Barney, President, called the meeting to order at approximately 1:10 PM.


Approval of Minutes: Motion made by Mary Liz Phillips to accept the minutes of the
January 19, 2011, was seconded by Andy Jurick, and the motion carried.
Guest Speakers: The Chair introduced James W. Brinkmeier, president of Highview
Consulting, LLC of Berryville, Virginia and Michael Allen-Hall, architect with the firm
of Noelker and Hull Associate, Inc., of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Each presented an
overview from their perspective of the process necessary to complete the construction of a new senior center and obtain financing. After the initial presentation, a question and answer session was held and several questions were asked by the board members. The session lasted for more than an hour.


Executive Director’s Report: The SLSMC food delivery truck was involved in a single
vehicle accident on Mt. Nebo Road at 12:30 PM just before the meeting. No injury to
any person but the vehicle appeared to be a total loss.
At 2:00 PM following the next Board Meeting on April 13, there will be a Volunteer
Appreciation Social. All Board Members are encouraged to attend and enjoy coffee and cake.
The monthly reports were distributed. No questions were received.
The May 11, 2011 meeting of the Board will be held at the Paw Paw Senior Center at
noon.
Motion made by Jayne Meadows to accept the monthly reports was seconded by Grant Wheeler and the motion carried.


Committee Reports:
Executive Committee: No report
Finance Committee: No report
Bylaws Committee: No report
Activities Committee: No report
Building Committee: The committee met to discuss what is next in the planning process. Plan to meet once a month. Encouraged to get the initial analysis from Highview Consulting, which was offered at no cost.
Denise Bergen offered to do some investigation into the financing aspect of the project.


Old Business: None


New Business: Bill Makinson distributed a letter from the Speaker of the House of
Delegates regarding the Committee on Senior Citizen Issues and talked about the
potential difficulties in funding that may arise in the future.
Linda Kjeldgaard reported that her husband, Jack, had volunteered to reconstruct the
SLSMC website and that work was progressing but that he needed information. Joel was extremely pleased with the results and agreed to provide the requested information.


Adjournment: There being no further business, upon the motion of Andy Jurick,
seconded by Grant Wheeler, the meeting was adjourned at 2:47 PM.


THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE APRIL 13, 2011 AT 1:00 PM AT THE BERKELEY SPRINGS SENIOR CENTER TO BE FOLLOWED BY THE VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION SOCIAL.
